I love Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in China. It is called Spring Festival as well, because it is the first day of spring in Chinese Lunar Calendar. When Chinese New Year is coming, families prepare much delicious food and demonstrate beautiful firework shows. Like many other Chinese children, I was looking forward to Chinese New Year when I was a little kid. During the happy holiday seasons, I usually play firecrackers. I love it very much. Most of the time, I enjoy the entertainment from playing firecrackers. However, there were a few times I got my self deep in trouble.
I still remember in one Spring Festival, when I was 8 years old. I was so indulged in playing firecrackers that I eventually I injured myself. At that time, all of my families were preparing to go to a studio to take a family picture together when everybody was present. But I was still playing the firecrackers. I put many of them into a small plastic bottle and held it seriously in my pocket. I took out one at a time and played them. Somehow I couldn’t open the bottle after a while, I tried many times but it didn’t work. So I knocked the bottle on the ground, suddenly, the firecrackers were exploded in my hand. All my relatives were shocked and did not know what was going on. I myself was scared but didn’t feel too much pain because my hand lost sensation. My parents hurried to pour cool water to my hand, and wanted to send me to the hospital. Fortunately, I gradually gained sensation and the injury was not too bad because the littler firecrackers I play were not very powerful.
I don’t know how many times I was nearly in danger with firecrackers. I had an obvious scar under my jaw due to firecracker accident. But I still love Chinese New Year and firecracker was a big part of it. I didn’t stop playing firecrackers in my childhood just like I did not stop playing soccer. I consider it as an enjoyable sport when I was young. It is the precious memory of my childhood.

  1. Hey William,

I think you should stay away from firecrackers:)! Actually, thanks for sharing this story. It reminds me of childhood and all the half-fun, half-dangerous things kids always get into.
